We are

Rooted in Kindness

We are committed to follow not only Jesus’ teachings, but to adopt Jesus’ lifestyle. This doesn’t mean wearing robes and sandals, but it does require us to practice love of neighbor in every arena of life. Our formational practices encourage us to reflect and ask: Am I becoming more loving? Such a paradigm provides the soul nourishment we need to build a flourishing life in community. Kindness does not prevent us from wrestling with tough issues; on the contrary, it allows us to humbly and faithfully search out the scriptures for Jesus’ loving path.

"The Lord is righteous in everything he does; he is filled with kindness."

Psalm 145:17 (NLT)

"Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience."

Colossians 3:12 (NLT)

We practice

Patience with

the Path

We center Jesus, and support each other’s journey in growing closer to Jesus. In a practical sense, this means that we acknowledge our need for community because no one has gotten it “all right”. We also acknowledge God’s individual attention to each one’s path, trusting the Holy Spirit’s excellent work. While we share our statements of belief as an expression of kindness, we welcome all travelers seeking to know Jesus better. Growing in community helps us wrestle through doubts together and build toward a stronger shared faith. We’ll never be as patient as God, but we aspire to be more patient today than we were yesterday.

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart."

Hebrews 12:1-3 (NIV)

We experience

Transformation

The hope of the gospel is new life. Inner transformation is a sacred and divine work of God available to all who call on the name of Jesus. We experience living out transformation through the practice of being with Jesus through communal worship and spiritual practices. Thus we grow and become more like Jesus, and take the risky step of real-life, real-time transformation, starting to do what Jesus did. Our ultimate transformation is promised in the resurrection, when we will live forever with King Jesus in the new heavens and new earth.

"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."

Romans 12:2 (NIV)

"Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure."

1 John 3:2-3 (NIV)
